This webinar will introduce somatic practices in a clinical setting. You will gain an understanding of biological trauma responses, learn approaches to somatic theory/practice, and explore ideas and tips about therapist regulation and attunement in session.

  1. Define 'soma' and understand how that definition influenced the development of somatic therapy.
  2. Describe the differences between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.
  3. Summarize what a regulated nervous system looks like and how a traumatic event can disrupt that cycle.
  4. Understand the unique situations and limitations of each client and the importance of keeping a safe pace.
  5. Define 'self-regulation' 'dis-regulation' 'orientation' and 'attunement' in relation to somatic practice.
  6. Apply regulation and attunement techniques to your own actions and reactions in session.
  7. Practice somatic grounding techniques and demonstrate understanding of advanced somatic techniques.

Juniper has an extensive background in holistic health and wellness as a licensed massage therapist and personal trainer. During her basic herbalist training at the Australasian College of Health Sciences, they received education on essential oils, herbs, advanced anatomy and physiology classes, and holistic stress management treatment.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Juniper has used the Academy's 3-Core Integrative approach for years, specializing in the treatment of anxiety and chronic stress. Juniper is greatly passionate about environmental justice and nature connection; she is a certified ecotherapist, Yasei Shinrin Yoku guide, and nature connection guide. Additionally, they are a Work That Reconnects facilitator and a Wild Mind apprentice at the Animas Valley Institute.

Andrea graduated from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology with an MA in Forensic Psychology and a specialty in Child Protection and has been working over 5 years in mental health with children, teens, and families in various settings. She has completed 216 training hours in Somatic Experiencing through the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute and is currently finishing a 3 year Somatic Experiencing practitioner certification.

Andrea is a connected soul that provides a clear presence with each session. Individuals, especially children, find this connection and presence reassuring as they learn, grow, and explore during their journey. She creates a space where people can understand the impact of trauma, stress, and emotional dysregulation on their whole being. She enjoys the process of nurturing resilience and supporting regulation in all environments.
